Concern Youth of Asante (CYA) have challenged Nana Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government to account to Asanteman what they promised in the Region whether it can persuade inhabitants to decide their reign in December or not.

The Association have also asked people in the Ashanti Region to compare and contrast the votes the NPP receives and the development established in exchange whenever they are in power and do same to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) before making a decision during the December elections.

The former president of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama during his courtesy call paid to the Overlord of the Asante Kingdom explained the various infrastructures he managed to create in the Region when he had the chance to serve. The group have questioned certain implementation of the incumbent government and have thereby challenged the NPP to do same instead of taking Asantes for granted with vain promises.

“We have called you here today to challenge the New Patriotic Party to account to Asanteman what they have done in the Ashanti Region since President Nana Akufo Addo assumed office barely four years ago,” Dr. Nana Agyenim said.

“Because we don’t want to be judgmental, we all witnessed the flagbearer of the opposition party, NDC just last Thursday at the Manhyia Palace accounting to the Overlord of the Asante, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the number of projects he was able to bring in the Ashanti Region when he had the opportunity to serve as a president of the Republic for just a term and we expect the NPP to do same."

At a press conference on Tuesday, September 1, 2020, at the Center for National Culture, themed, "Account to Asanteman," the President of Concern Youth of Asante, Dr. Nana Agyenim Boateng detailed that the Ashanti Region as always played a significant role in the NPP’s enthronement yet people do not profit from their decisions which always goes in favor of the NPP.  He informed and advised members to reason if the incumbent government deserves their votes this era judging from the poor infrastructures and uncompleted projects, with some becoming 'white elephants' in some areas.

“I want to ask if we are doing good to a party (NDC) who thinks about our welfare and development with the votes we give out during elections? Ita about time we think and rethink about the kind of party we sacrifice our votes for as a native of Asante.

“CYA is not far from right if we say the NPP takes Asanteman for fools. This is because NPP only deceives Asanteman when they need votes and dump us when we cry for development. We are now wise and can no longer be deceived by the self-seeking Nana Addo’s government and the NPP,” he addressed.

A list of projects undertaken during the John Dramani Mahama’s administration was revealed including, including the Kumasi Kejetia, Tafo, Asawase, and Atonsu Markets built under the NDC. The Sewua Hospital, Afari Military Hospital, Kumawu, Tepa, Konongo, Fomena, and Bekwai hospitals were also identified. Road projects and Community schools were also disclosed; proof that the NDC has the welfare of Asantis at heart.

A revelation was made that the Bauxite concession at Nyinahini in the Ashanti Region which was awarded a contract to a Ghanaian based businessman was just terminated for Chinese business.

The group cautioned that if nothing is done to show the NPP that the power to rule the country is in their hands, they will always be taken for granted.
