A Non-profitable organization, DirectAid Ghana based in the Islamic State of Kuwait has presented Ramadan food bags known as "iftar" to about one thousand (1,000) Muslims in Tamale to support them through this year's Ramadan successfully.

The giveaway is part of the organization annual Ramadan charity towards supporting Muslims who are vulnerable to be sufficient during Ramadan (fasting).

The organization also believes that the support will prevent begging on the principal streets of Tamale and its neighbourhood.

The Northern Regional Director of DirectAid Ghana, Mr Mahmoud Idriss Ismail in his welcome address thanked the good people of the Region for their cordiality all these years dating back from 1998 when they started operating in the Region.

Mr Mahmoud noted that the organization receives its donor support from the Jam'iyatul al aun al Mubaashir group and the government of Kuwait.

He revealed that this years package is estimated at an amount of Ghc 582,000.

On his part, the Northern Regional Minister Alhaji Shani Alhassan Shaibu thanked DirectAid Ghana and the government of Kuwait for the benevolent donation and urged them to continue to touch many lives especially the less privileged, orphans and widows.

The Regional Minister took the opportunity to mention that he has taken interest in equipping Abubakar Sadiq Center of education where the program was held.

According to him, his outfit and the Regional Education Directorate will provide adequate furniture to the school to enhance teaching and learning.

He urged the authority of the school to consider adding vocational and skill training to their curriculum to support the youth to be technocrats.

Honourable Shani underscored the need for peaceful co-existence amongst Muslims and non-Muslims in the Northern  Region.

Each beneficiary received two mini-bags of rice, sugar, tea, cooking oil, non-dairy milk powder, tin tomatoes among others.

Direct Aide Ghana operates across the whole of Africa and has five branches in Ghana with two branches in  Accra and one each in Kumasi, Cape Coast and Tamale.
