Nigerian carrier, Air Peace flight experience engine failure on Tuesday, it was gathered that it had an engine failure few minutes after departing Lagos.

It was learnt that the Air Peace aircraft, a Boeing B737-500 with the registration number 5N-BUJ, which departed the Murtala Muhammed Airport Lagos for Owerri, Imo State, made an air return to base following the incident that led to the collapse of one of its two engines.

The aircraft, which departed the airport at 07.35am with 90 passengers and six crew members on board, returned at 8.06 am.

The Corporate Communications Executive, Air Peace, Stanley Olisa, said the aircraft was already airborne when the pilot noticed a change in the parameter of one of the engines and aborted the flight.

Olisa said“He reported the incident; took precautionary measure and returned to base in line with Air Peace safety operational procedures".

The General Manager, Public Affairs of the AIB, Mr Tunji Oketunbi, said from the information provided by the Air Traffic Control, the flight crew declared engine failure at 07:47 local time and subsequently made an air return to Lagos.

“The aircraft landed safely at 08:06 local time. All the occupants disembarked with no injury. The AIB team of safety investigators has commenced investigation,” Oketunbi said.

While apologising to its affected customers, Olisa said the airline would continue to maintain high safety standard in its operations.
