The lives of pupils of Ayaase AME Zion Basic School in the Twifo Ati-Morkwa District of Central Region are in danger as they study under a death trap school building.

The structure, which has not seen any renovation since it was built, has developed deep cracks on the walls and all the pillars that hold it together have also developed cracks and the roof partly ripped off leaving it on the verge of collapsing.

The building could collapse and kill pupils and teachers due to its dilapidated state.

The assembly member of the area, Mr. Joseph Saeed Issah, told SN24 in an interview that, even though the Kindergarten (KG) block on the compound of the School has been declared a death trap, the structure is still in use.

The school’s authorities said, the building is functioning because they do not have anywhere to keep the students. A move to stop them from coming to school will distort the academic calendar.

"In AME Zion school we have JHS school but we don't have JHS block since the block collapsed some years back, the computer and library room has been used to housing the students.”

The authorities further stated that some of the pupils sit on the bare floor for studies due to palpably inadequate furniture in the school.

The authorities, therefore, appealed to individuals, NGOs, and philanthropists to come to their aid.

Nana Kwame Breku, Ayaase Abusuapanin on the other hand has pleaded with the Twifo Ati-Morkwa District Assembly and the government of Ghana to come to their aid.
