Confusion Over Shortlist Of MMDCE Aspirants In Accra...As Coalition Of NDC Branch Executives Reject Aspirants

The Coalition of National Democratic Congress (NDC) branch Executives have rejected the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCE) aspirants shortlisted in the Greater Accra Region.

Mincing no words, the group called for the immediate re-organizatiob of the vetting of MMDCE aspirants in the Greater Accra Region

In a strong worded statement copied to Soireenews.com dated February 3, 2024 and signed by the leader of Coalition of NDC Branch Executives, Mr Animle Oyanka Oshimpa, the group noted that it has taken note of disturbing reports regarding an illegal shortlist of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) for the Greater Accra Region.

The group categorically stated "our strong opposition to this unlawful and undemocratic process, which undermines transparency, accountability, and due process in the governance of our local assemblies.

It has come to our attention that certain individuals, without the mandate of the appointing authority and without adherence to established procedures, have manipulated the selection process to impose their preferred candidates.

This development raises serious concerns about political interference, favoritism, and the erosion of public trust in the system.

"We wish to remind all stakeholders that the appointment of MMDCEs must follow the legal framework as outlined in the Constitution of Ghana, the Local Governance Act, and relevant regulations. Any attempt to subvert due process will not be tolerated," the statement said.

Demand Full Transparency

The statement called on the government and relevant authorities to make public the official list of shortlisted candidates and the criteria used in the selection process.

 Call for an Investigation

The statement stressed that an independent probe should be conducted to identify and hold accountable any persons responsible for this illegal shortlist.

 Urge the President to Intervene

According to the statement the appointing authority must ensure that only qualified, competent, and duly vetted candidates are considered for these crucial positions.

 Warn Against Partisan Manipulation

The statement asserted that the selection of MMDCEs should be based on merit, competence, and the will of the people, not the selfish interests of a few individuals seeking to hijack the process.

The statement noted that the National Executives should re-conduct the vetting for each District in Accra for proper transparency. Failure to do so will have a dire consequence on the fortunes of the party in the region.

"We stand firm in our commitment to ensuring good governance, fairness, and justice in our local government administration. Any attempt to impose unqualified or illegally shortlisted candidates will be met with the necessary legal and civic resistance," it noted.

The statement urged all well-meaning Ghanaians, civil society organizations, and political stakeholders to join the NDC branch executives in safeguarding the integrity of the country's local governance structures.
