The Environmental Health Officer for Sefwi Wiawso Municipality, Mr Samuel Dankwah has urged the good people of the community and its surrounding towns not to toll away dustbins into their cocoa farms for irrigation purposes.

According to him, farmers in the Municipality are fond of lugging containers serving as waste bins to their farms to water and spray crops and the act is becoming rampant which needs to be controlled.

Mr Samuel Dankwah during an interview with Soireenews revealed that sanitation at Sefwi Wiawso has will soon affect the health of residents if measures are not put in place to curb the menace.

He disclosed that people have the notion that Zoomlion workers are being paid for the rendered service therefore their hard work will only be seen if there is work to be done, and that means littering around.

“Others also pile refuse in their house and when it’s raining, they rush to drop them in the rainwater which affects others elsewhere,” he said.

“It chokes the drains and affects the water flow which if not taken care of breeds mosquitoes,” he added.

He educated that in order to curtail the challenge, containers will be employed at key places to take care of refuse.

“Containers will be placed at vantage points to make sure people make good use of it. Farmers shouldn’t take them to their farms to spray their cocoa and other crops. It is purposely for sanitation hence the decision.

“The assembly is putting things in place to keep tidy the Western North and bye-laws are being put in place to take instant fund from offenders.”

He further said that there are Challenges on sanitation in the Municipal but the Assembly has engaged the Zoomlion Ghana Limited workers to clean the environs of Sefwi Wiawso by picking empty bags of sachet water.

He said that the Assembly is ever prepared to make by-laws to deal with whoever finds him/herself in the act of littering within the Municipality of Sefwi Wiawso and its environs.

He advised against open defecation in the rain saying the ill act could cause an outbreak of diseases therefore perpetrators must end such.

He ended by saying that, he is in support of the Government by the proposal of paying sanitation fund.
