Watford recorded their heaviest defeat in English League Football at the Etihad on Saturday afternoon as they watch City bruise them by 8-0.

Pep Guardiola made four changes to the Manchester City side that won 3-0 at Shakhtar Donetsk. Raheem Sterling was dropped to the bench along with Gabriel Jesus and Ilkay Gundogan.

Sergio Aguero, David Silva and Bernardo Silva returned, while Benjamin Mendy replaces Oleksandr Zinchenko, who was not in the matchday squad.

Fernandinho retained his place at centre-back as City play in the Premier League for the first time since losing John Stones.

Quique Sanchez Flores made two changes following Watford’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal.

Adrian Mariappa returned at centre-back, captaining the side in Troy Deeney’s continued absence. Dimitri Foulquier made his Premier League debut at right back as Christian Kabasele and Andre Gray made way, with Gerard Deulofeu given the task of leading the Hornets attack in the absence of a recognized striker.

Manchester City scored the first goal under 60 seconds. Great start. Kevin De Bruyne whipped a sublime cross in from the right flank. Aguero went for it from the near post but Silva was caught following up right behind him to convert from close range.

Riyad Mahrez was brought down inside the box as Mike Dean awarded the hosts a penalty in the 6-minute. City was on the counter as the Algerian was played in behind. Foster raced off his line to smoother the ball to make contact with Mahrez. Aguero stepped up and scored his 100th Premier League.

Mahrez added a second; Manchester City’s third in the 12-minute. The Algerian pulled rank at the free kick, lashed a left-footed effort towards goal that smashed Tom Cleverley in the face before flying past the wrong-footed Foster.

The visitors had no breathing space as the energetic City came pushing for more. Bernardo Silva scored the fourth in the 15-minute. Femenia failed to clear De Bruyne’s corner to the near post. The ball found Bernardo unmarked six yards out and he stopped to head past Foster.

Aguero drifted in behind Foulquier at right back and drilled a great ball in the six-yard box where Nicolas Otamendi converted on the stretch.

Watford came close to responding, their first shot on target in the 27-minute through a free kick fired by Deulofeu over Man City’s wall but Ederson was right behind it. The former Braca man reacted again in the 39-minute by driving into City territory before offloading the ball to Preyra. He brilliantly lifted the ball over the on rushing Ederson but a fine covering tackle from Otamendi saw the chance evaporate.

City picked up from where they left to hit a sixth goal four minutes into the second half. Aguero brilliantly kept a cross-alive at the back post. He hooked it back into the area allowing City to recycle play. Two woeful Watford challenges allowed Bernardo Silva to be played through on goal and he skilfully flicked the ball over one challenge before firing past Foster.

Silva completed his hat trick in the 60-minute. De Bruyne was the architect in the setup. He drifted in behind Doucoure before fizzing a ball across the box for Bernardo who fired ast Foster at the second time of asking.

De Bruyne wrapped up the goals with a masterful performance with an eight goal for Manchester City. The Belgian picked up the ball on the left and with minimum, back lift hammered a stunning effort past Foster at the near post for Watford to record their heaviest defeat in English League football.
