Manchester United are top of the Premier League table after a narrow win at the Turf Moor against Burnley.

Paul Pogba’s only goal in the second half moved the Red Devils in a three-point margin against the Champions whom they play at Anfield on Sunday.

Manchester United at the blast of the referee’s whistle begun to enjoy the game as they dominated more on the visitors’ half.

Sean Dyche’s team depended on long balls to break but Harry Maguire and Bailey were on alert to diffuse any threat posed by the hosts.

The Clarets came close in the 7-minute minute after a long diagonal ball was sent in the United area which Wood nodded brilliantly into the path of Barnes and just as he was about to pull the trigger, Maguire made a crucial challenge before winning a free-kick.

Burnley almost grabbed a goal when Wood’s effort towards the far corner deflected off United’s enter back before drifting wide of De Gea’s goal.

Luke Shaw later escaped an exit decision when referee Kevin Friend ruled any possible red card offence for the defender’s career-threatening tackle on Gudmundsson.

Harry Maguire scored the opener in the 37-minute but the ball was ruled out by VAR and review exposed the defender elbow a Burnley player.

The ball was solely possessed by Manchester United early this second half as they kept asking serious questions of the Burnley defence in a bid to find a way through.

Pogba scored in the 71-minute with a crispy volley that took a wicked deflection off Lowton on his way past Nick Pope.

United almost played it through for a second goal but just as Martial prepared to pull the trigger from close range, Tarkowski made a brilliant last-ditch tackle eight minutes to full time.

The game ended 1-0 for Manchester United.
