FIFA president, Gianni Infantino has disapproved the creation of an European Super League following the decision for some influential club owners to go ahead with the move.

The president of the football governing body has cautioned that clubs who are willing to participate in the activity will have to live with the later consequences.

Twelve clubs have been identified to be involved in the ESL with the Premier League Big six a key part of the proposal.

Some fans have protested at the decision to break away to join the new force following a demonstration at Elland Road on Monday night when Liverpool played a 1-1 draw with Leeds United in the Premier League.

The Premier League and UEFA have condemned the decision and the mother association of the game have endorsed their pronouncement saying the ESL is a “breakaway.”

“We can only strongly disapprove the creation of the Super League, a Super League which is a closed shop, which is a breakaway from the current institutions, from the leagues, from the associations, from UEFA and from FIFA.

“There is a lot to throw away for the short-term financial gain of some. They need to reflect, and they need to assume responsibility.”

He warned the breakaway clubs that “If some elect to go their own way then they must live with the consequences of their choice. They are responsible for their choice.

“Concretely, this means either you're in or you're out. You cannot be half in or half out.”
