Ghana receives support from Germany to begin production of COVID-19 vaccines locally
German ambassador said Ghana is being supported to conduct a feasibility study on vaccine production in country.

Ghana will soon begin local production of COVID-19 vaccines, German ambassador to Ghana Christoph Retzlaff has in a tweet announced.
According to the ambassador, the German government has already together with Ghana began a feasibility study on vaccine production in the West African country.
“Germany is supporting Ghana to do a feasibility study on vaccine production in Ghana. Leading global German pharmaceutical companies are also starting cooperation projects.”, his tweet read
Meanwhile, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) says so far, over 700,000 vaccines have been administered since the mass vaccination exercise began in March.
The GHS said as at Sunday April, 11 a total of 703,752 vaccines had been administered.

Ghana received 600,000 doses as the first batch and the world’s first under the COVAX initiative in February.
About 50,000 more were received from the Indian government.
Many are due for their second shots but delays have hit the facility across the world.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), countries that received initial shipments under COVAX could soon be running out of doses.
