Despite the government's claims of its commitment to eradicating schools under the tree and infrastructural deficits in various schools in the country, Pupils of Gyeankontabuo Basic School, a farming community in the Berekum East Municipality of the Bono Region still sit on blocks and learn under a dilapidated structure.

This was reviewed at a tour to the school by delegations from the camp of the wife of Ghana’s Health Minister-designate, Mr. Suzy Agyemang Manu, and some selected media houses in the Region to share nose masks with pupils and teachers of the school.

The delegation from Madam Suzy Agyemang Manu’s camp lead by Madam Jemima Amoah aka Mama Gee Wednesday donated over 1000 pieces of nose mask to some selected schools in the Berekum East Municipality of the Bono Region.

The donation was to help augment the government’s efforts in reducing the spread of the Covid 19 virus in schools. The beneficiary schools were Kato M/A primary, SDA primary, and JHS as well as Gyeankontabuo primary school, a school in a farming community with the Municipality.

At Gyeankontabuo where the team realised the poor state of the basic school coupled with students sitting on blocks to acquire knowledge, Madam Jemima out of shock angrily questioned why the situation should be so in this 21st century.

The Headmaster for Gyeankontabuo Basic School Mr. Habib Shiabu however expressed worry over the situation saying all his efforts to get the challenge addressed prove futile. He is however calling on stakeholders and philanthropists to as a matter of urgency come to their aid.
