Sky Sports pundit, Matt Murray has tipped Dean Henderson to become the number one goalkeeper for Manchester United in no time.

The Manchester United asset is on loan at Sheffield United since 2018 and was enjoying an excellent campaign, which earned him a national call up before the league was suspended on March 13, 2020.

Henderson signed a two-year contract extension with his parent club, which was due to expire in June 2020 and joined Championship club Sheffield United on loan until the end of the 2018–19 season, helping them to secure promotion to the Premier League for the first time since 2007.

Henderson signed a new contract in July 2019 with Manchester United until June 2022 and returned on loan to Sheffield United.

His loan deal was supposed to conclude at the end of the current season yet the Premier League permission for clubs to prolong loan deals to cover the remainder of the season due to the stretch produced by the coronavirus has seen both clubs talking about the future of the 23-year old.

If no deal is agreed for him to continue his development at Bramall Lane, then it means that Henderson would return to Old Trafford.

According to Murray, although it will take time for the young shot-stopper to catch up with David De Gea’s level, yet he would be the first choice keeper for the Red Devils someday.

“David De Gea is still one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League. Last season he maybe wasn't quite to the levels we are used to, but he's still a top goalkeeper,” he said on The Football Show on Sky Sports.

He advised that if United are not ready to deploy one of their young assets, then it is needful that he continues developing in the care of Chris Wilder.

“He's signed that long-term deal, so he's an asset to the club. But if Henderson isn't going to play at Manchester United in the current market, then it's important to stay out at Sheffield United with Chris Wilder.

“With another full season, I think he'd be ready, but he has to go back and perform. I think in time he will be Manchester United No 1, because he doesn't just have the ability, I think he has the mentality.”
