Kofas has demanded that the cinemas in Ghana be re-opened.

The movie producer argued that the source of livelihood of producers can be up and running if members of Parliament can hold meetings without the fear of the virus.

Cinemas and theatres have been closed since 2020 as part of the efforts to stem the spread of the pandemic.

In a move that has now been active for a year, Kofas has now asked for it to be abolished.

Per his words, the movie producers and moviegoers will have no problem strictly adhering to the rules and regulations placed by the government if the theatres are reopened.

“I think the reopening of the cinemas is long overdue. If we have 275 parliamentarians sit in Parliament and there is no cause of alarm then we should be able to do the same for the cinema. In the cinema, nobody even talks. We don’t talk in the cinema, we only watch something on the screen so you don’t have people talking to anyone on the stage.

“In the cinema, we clap, cry and laugh and we leave. It's even possible to be in the cinema, watch the entire film with your nose mask on. If school children can go to school and follow the protocols why can’t grown-ups go to the cinema and adhere to the covid-19 protocols,”

This he said on Joy Prime while speaking in an interview.

Kofas concluded that all Ghanaians are capable of adhering to protocol and the reopening of cinemas will show that the government has faith in its citizens.
