Gospel singer, Patience Nyarko has labelled Joe Mettle as ‘overhyped’ and not innovative most Ghanaian gospel artists that write their own songs.

She claimed that Joe Mettle only gets credit for remastering old songs, particularly songs of Pentecostal origin and would not be worth his fame if the Pentecost and Methodist churches placed a ban on the reproduction of their songs.

She said this in reaction to UK-based Dj Alordia's claim that Joe Mettle is the only Ghanaian gospel musician that attracts many people from all over the world to his music because he sings most of his songs in the English language unlike other Ghanaian gospel artistes.

"How many English songs has Joe Mettle composed in this country? Let [the Church of] Pentecost and Methodist Church come out with a directive that no musician should sing their songs, I tell you he will fall,” she revealed on Onua TV on Saturday, May 16.

"The way people want to lift him above all of us, they will give him problem. He is not yet there. People want us to believe he is better than all of us gospel musicians in Ghana.”

"Apart from Joe Mettle singing Pentecost and Methodist songs, how many English songs has he composed and you want to disrespect some of us that write our own songs,” she concluded.

The event organizer spoke that when Ghanaian artistes are to perform during events in the United Kingdom, he does not get nationals from Nigeria and South Africa to enjoy the show because most Ghanaians only sing in their own languages.

He singled out Joe Mettle as the artiste that attracts foreign audience in the gospel community.
