Krachi West Educational Directorate has started to whip up the interest of pupils in the area.

This is aimed at improving the reading skills of pupils to enhance the quality of education in the district.

The Krachi West District Director of Education, Irene Jacquelinda  Attabra made the statement at a Reading Festival for primary school children at Kadentwe, a farming community in the Krachi West District of the Oti region.

As part of its measures to improve reading skills among school children in the Oti region, the Ghana Education Service (GES) in the Krachi West District in collaboration with World Vision has organised a reading festival for primary school children at Kadentwe.

The Krachi West District Director of Education, Irene Jacquelinda  Attabra observed that when one is unable to read and write it makes living in society difficult and stressful.

She thus called on parents to encourage their children to join reading clubs, as it improves their reading abilities.

Speaking with Solomon Ahiable, the Krachi-Nkwanta cluster programme Manager, Edward Owulah for World Vision Ghana, said, the children came together to showcase what they have learnt for their parents and to appreciate them.

Nana Kwame Afatwor II commended the organizers and pledged support by calling on the government to help schools with the needed logistics and learning materials to improve education in general.

Some of the pupils who took part in the reading festival expressed the joy and love for the opportunity given them to read and write.

The pupil said they hardly have the privilege to read because of the poor facilities they have in their various school.

The students, therefore, appealed to the government to provide them with the needed facilities and logistics that will enhance their effective learning and teaching.
