One thousand and one hundred (1,100) apprentice in the Kwabre East Constituency have benefitted from the Member of Parliament’s donation embarked on Friday, November 27, 2020, to support and encourage apprenticeship.

450 Hair Dryers, 450 sewing machines and 200 barbering machines were donated to Hairdressers, Dressmakers and Barbers respectively to improve their career and enhance their standard of living.

The MP, Honorable Francisca Oteng Mensah explained that it is part of her plans to improve the material comfort of her constituents through boosting their profession with needed equipment to assist them to begin a new life.

She briefed the press that although she as the representative of the constituency has plans to provide training centres to strengthen skills that employees need to improve in the foreseeable future yet it all starts with how apprentice would make a meaningful use to the received appliances.

“We want to help the young ones who have learnt a trade to start something to secure their lives. We are offering start-up kits to new traders whiles the ones already in the trade needs a little push to be able to take care of their families,” she said.

“The benefit of receiving the machines is not to them alone but family, community and the entire constituency as a whole. I know it will go a long way to provide hope for the young ones in learning these handy skills.

“We are in the process of making plans for training centres. Our party office is still under construction and after completion, we have plans to dedicate the top floor for training young people to learn. At the initial stage, we would run shifts to cover a lot of people in the constituency because we want everyone to enjoy the national cake and support government initiatives."

She told SoireeNews that support to apprentices has been going on for some time in the constituency but due to the recent sponsorship received to transform the lives of others, there was an increase in the machines given out.

The MP encouraged receivers to make good use of the items and advised them to employ fellows, and if possible teach them of their profession.

She further informed that follow-ups would be made to assess the executions of the machines and possibly know its impact.

“We have been doing this for between 100 and 200 people. Today we have support from other places hence the expansion," she disclosed.

“We expect them to use the machines at work and also employ their fellows to acquire a skill. Their action will help limit unemployment since putting them to work is of a greater impact.

“If they put them to use, the influence will be great. We’ll also do follow up to assess the performances as to whether it yielded results or not. If yes, we’ll push further, if not, we’ll make changes to know where we fell short and see the way forward.”

Receivers appreciated the items given and promised to repay the MP at any given time through their trade.
