Lagos Fire Explosion: Several Boarding Students Feared Dead, Principal of Bethlehem Confirmed Dead!

Yesterday was a black Sunday for residents in Lagos state as a terrible explosion struck in the early hours of the day, in Abule Ado area of Amuwo Odofin local government.

A terrible explosion struck in the early hours of the day, in Abule Ado area of Amuwo Odofin local government. 

 

 

The blast caused the collapse of several buildings and properties worth billions of naira were damaged.  Houses were also burnt from the fire of the explosion. 

A boarding school building located in the area was also reported to have collapsed. Some students have been rescued, while others are still trapped under the rubble.

 

 

The death toll has increased to 17, with scores of people injured. The Lagos state fire service and LASEMA were on ground to carry out a swift rescue operation.

Residents believed that the cause of the explosion was an oil pipeline. Proper findings have been done and it was revealed that the blast originated from a gas processing plant, where the cylinders were hit by a truck.

Sadly, Rev. Sr. Henrietta Alokha has been confirmed dead.

She had tried saving the children under her care, and went back to save more before the roof caved in on her.

Most of the students have been accounted for, with minor cuts and injuries, whilst some whose injuries were more severe are at the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital, Ojo.

However, It was learnt that Rev. Sr Henrietta Alokha who until her untimely death today, was the principal of Bethlehem High School, Abule Ado. 



An eye witness reported that: “The roof of our building is off and a nearby school is on fire.”

"Reports have it that she was able to rescue all the students until she succumbed to the fire.

"Eternal rest grant her, O Lord and let your perpetual light shine upon her. Amen �
