Leicester City have made an initial approach to Adam Lallana’s representatives, as they look to steal a march on their rivals for his signature ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 31-year-old is also of interest to Tottenham, Arsenal and West Ham, according to reports.

Lallana is out of contract at the end of this season, and as such is now free to negotiate with foreign clubs and even sign a pre-contract agreement, if a deal can be reached.

That’s prompted Leicester to make an early move, so that Lallana is in no doubt he is on Brendan Rodgers’ wanted list. Rodgers signed Lallana for Liverpool and gave him his Anfield debut in 2014.

However, transfer rules dictate that Lallana must have permission from his current employers if he wants to negotiate with other English clubs before his current deal expires.

That isn’t thought to be an issue in this case, because Liverpool have given him their blessing to plan his future, and made it clear to the England international he won’t be offered a new Anfield contract.

Leicester are in the market for a new winger, and they see Lallana as the perfect fit. The increasing likelihood that they can offer him Champions League football next season could be a key factor, though Lallana is expected to consider all his options before committing to a move.

He’s made just three Premier League starts this season, and is keen to have regular first team football at this stage of his career.
