“Mense World”: Social Media Blasts Organizers for an All-Male Panel Discussion on Menstruation

Many have took to social media to register their displeasure at an initiative to discuss issues pertaining menstrual hygiene with an all-male panel.

The programme which sought to discuss the pertinent issue as the world marks Menstrual Hygiene Day 2020, was panelled by five resource persons – all male – which included a doctor.

Critics have said, a discussion on such as topic which primarily concerns women, should have had at least a female representative on the panel.

Other persons chided the organizers for supposedly naming the programme wrongly -  “Mense World”.

One of the panelist, Israel Laryea - a journalist - has defended the move by organisers, saying the programme was to avail men the opportunity to give their opinions on the matter, since it affects people close to them.

He said there was an all-woman panel yesterday.
