Minister of Education and Ghana's President DISMISS CSE Implementation in Kumasi

The news are received lots of criticisms from religious leaders and concerned citizens defining the CSE in basic schools as a platform to marry the LGBT (Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and Transgender) into the various institutions in the country.

The Minister of Education, Prof. Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has announced that government and the Ministry of Education has in no way approved the curriculum of the Comprehensive Sexual Education (CSE) which has become a National brouhaha and infused fear in parents for their wards.

The Minister made these admissions during the 25th National Best Teachers Award, renamed to ‘Ghana Teacher Prize’ at the Paa Joe Stadium on Saturday, October 5, 2019.

According to Dr. Prempeh, the cabinet of the Presidency did not agree with the implementation of the CSE as part of the renewed syllabus when the Education Ministry presented the idea. He spoke that the Ministry were directed to stick their policies according to Article 39 of the constitution of Ghana.

Article 39: (1) Subject to clause (2) of this article, the State shall take steps to encourage the integration of appropriate customary values into the fabric of national life through formal and informal education and the conscious introduction of cultural dimensions to relevant aspects of national planning.

(2) The State shall ensure that appropriate customary and cultural values are adapted and developed as an integral part of the growing needs of the society as a whole; and in particular that traditional practices which are injurious to the health and well-being of the person of the person are abolished.

“It is a fact that when we came out with the syllabus of the New Comprehensive Sexual Education that has been in the classroom for a very long time, His Excellencies cabinet did not agree with the Comprehensive Sexual Education. So we in the Ministry were directed to make sure that according to Article 39 of the constitution, this sticks within the cultural norms of the country,” he said.

Hon. Prempeh without doubt stated that the Ministry of Education has not approved any principles for the CSE in the country.

“As we speak, we (Ministry of Education) haven’t approve any guidelines for Comprehensive Sexual Education in Ghana, our motherland,” he ended.

Meanwhile, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo, president of the Republic of Ghana allayed parent’s fears on the introduction of the (CSE) in next year’s school curriculum.

Nana on Sunday, September 6, 2019 speaking at a service to climax the St Cyprian's Anglican Cathedral Week in Kumasi addressed that the sparkled stories were just rumors for there is no way he would permit the institution of a subject against his Christian values.

"I am a Christian and this, certainly, is against my Christian values,” he said whiles

The president further revealed that he implemented the Free Senior High School Policy to empower the youth and develop their human capital and not the other way.

"I did not introduce the policy to teach our children CSE," he said in Twi, adding: "The free SHS is to make our children competitive and not to corrupt them."
