The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has called off its industrial strike action announced on Thursday, 5th September 2019.

The strike action, which was based on important issues such as the Newly Resource Management System (HRMIS), according to teachers brought pressure and hardship to them.

Mr. Eric Angel Carbonu, NAGRAT president speaking at a press conference in Accra explained that the HRMIS acquired by the Public Service Commission has created a lot of problems for the Graduated teachers, which is affecting the mode of work.

Outstanding salary arrears, delays in promotion, additional responsibility allowance, delays in receiving promotion letters and the inability to seek transfer are some of the challenges the president explained affecting teachers.

A statement revealed by NAGRAT indicates that the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Employment and the National Labor Commission intervened to address the challenges that imposed the industrial action.

“The leadership of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) will like to announce to all teachers and the general public that from 13th September 2019, it has called off its strike.”
“We thank the Minister of Education, the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, the National Labour Commission and the Ghana Education Service for their interventions to address the challenges that necessitated the industrial action,” a statement from the Association said.

The Finance Ministry based on reports had earlier authorized the Controller and Accountant General to release GH¢49,998,626.72 to the Ghana Education Service (GES) to enable it pay the outstanding transfer grants and other allowances owed teachers from 2017-2019.
