The Immediate past Member of Parliament for New Edubiasi, on the ticket of the new patriotic party who doubled as Deputy Agric Minister, Honorable George Oduro has stated that the National Democratic Party (NDC) cannot be trusted as they usually don't fulfil their promises.

His comments were in reaction to the situation in Ghana's parliament where the numbers stand at 137 MPs for the ruling New Patriotic Party similar to that of the main opposition, with one independent candidate.

The NDC's Alban Bagbin was elected as the speaker of parliament on Thursday, December 7, 2021, and has promised to work with the NPP for the best of the country, yet the former legislature seems sceptical about the opposition Speaker of Parliament voted to direct the affairs of the house.

To him, the NDC cannot be trusted.

"The NDC have some good people, I'm happy they have assured to work hand in hand with the government. There are very fine people in the NDC but there's something always fishy about them. They just can't be trusted with their promises," the former lawmaker said.

He, however, asserted that the newly elected speaker of parliament will disappoint many who don't believe his genuineness and impartiality adding that "there are great people in NDC including the new speaker and Hon Ahmed Ibrahim, but what I can say is that, when the leadership of the house meets with the speaker and come up with a decision, they should all support it for the betterment of the country, but with what I know about Honourable Alban Bagbin, I can comfortably say, he will disappoint many who don't trust him.

It Is Unfortunate - Rev Dr Paul Boafo Attitude of MPs In Parliament

"He's strict and well-disciplined and I'm unequivocal that he will work for the interest of the country and not just for his party. If a budget is presented in parliament and he decides not to approve, his salary is in that budget and as such he won't be paid so I think we'll have smooth sailing in the 8th parliament but if it is going to work, NPP needs to come to a compromise before we can have a smooth sailing" he concluded.

The member of parliament for Banda, Honorable Ahmed Ibrahim of the National Democratic Congress couldn't agree less. According to him, "Bagbin is a straight and strict person," he testified.

"I remember in the 5th parliament, the minority - NPP then fought in their chamber and it caught the attention of Honorable Bagbin. He went there, separated them and advised them to eschew such habits and serve Ghana. One other interesting thing is that President Akufo Adoo has worked under Bagbin, likewise, John Mahama, Kyei Mensah and many more, for such reason he's called the father of our democracy and I don't think he will neglect the NPP and work with only NDC".

He added that Ghanaians should not panic because the 8th parliament of the republic will be free from cronyism, nepotism and it likes.
