NDC Eastern Regional Legal Team Chairman Shares Story On How He Takes Trip With His Friend To New York To Visit The United Nations Headquarters

Whilst pursuing my LLM (Master of Laws) in the USA, specifically at the American University Washington College of Law in Washington DC, USA , we had to take a trip to New York to visit the United Nations Headquarters, to the New York Stock Exchange and a host of other major international institutions in New York.

We were students from all around the world who had met at the school to pursue our various programs and since most of us were doing our Masters in International Law we were required to take that trip as part of the program.

One thursday afternoon we set off in a bus from DC and hopefully arrived in Manhattan, New York to see the sprawling skyscrapers everywhere.

For some of us from Africa it was our first time going there even though I had earlier visited the USA in a work exchange program and had had a good time in downtown Chicago.

We were scheduled to pass the night at a hotel since the trip was very important requiring us to spend more time at each institution we visited. It was a planned program and we were going to do a lot of interactions with the institutional heads and asking questions whilst learning.

We arrived around 3pm thereabout and checked into our hotel and in fact we were paired to be in our hotel rooms.

My room mate was then a High Court Judge in Malawi who was also in the USA to study.

Since our first day in New York wasn't for us to visit any institution but to settle in and begin the program the next day, we had time for ourselves after check in to do other things.

My room mate suggested we roam around a little bit and to have a feel of the neighborhood and of course enjoy the scenery in the City.

Even though it wasn't our first time in New York, the place is so Big you can never finish visiting all the nice areas.

Of course visiting areas you've never visited before means you are a stranger in that neighborhood.

We wondered where to start from and where to head towards.

Whilst pondering on what to do I pointed to a direction and said lets go this way.

He looked at me and said are you sure and I said yes.

His next obvious question was "what if we get lost?"

I looked at him and replied if we get lost we'll come back.

He laughed at my answer and said when you are lost how do you come back?

I laughed and said we'll come back.

Then he says okay after you then.

We proceeded to take a walk and before we knew we were basking in the city enjoying ourselves.

For about an hour we were walking to different places and taking different turns then all of a sudden my friend said Isaac I think we are lost.

I looked at him and turned round to see if he was joking and I realized indeed we were lost.

We had no idea where we were in downtown New York and how to get back.

I started looking around to see if I could figure out a way back but realized we were very lost.

We both looked at each other and started laughing because I knew what he was going to say.

Then he says I told you we'll get lost. I was looking at him and then he says well you said we'll get back so now take us back.

I shook my head and knew this was trouble. It was going to be difficult finding our way back.

I stood for a while and then I told him let's take this route. He looked at me and said how sure are you?

I said but if I'm wrong we are already lost anyway.

You can never get lost more than you already are. LoL
