“I take a strong exception to such conduct and behaviour and I urge leadership to take a serious view of it and take the necessary measures to restore the lost dignity of this house. This is at violence in the message that the good people of Ghana gave us in the 2020 elections,” he added.

Also, Alban Bagbin in his address to the house cautioned members that, his office is a neutral one, and not a speaker for the National Democratic Congress or the New Patriotic Party and that he will discharge his duty according to the oath he has sworn.

“There is only a speaker of the parliament of Ghana and all Ghanaians,” he reminded

“Unlike my counterpart in the America House of Representatives, the Ghanaian speaker is not a member of the house. He presides over but does not participate in proceedings in the house and he or she has no vote, not even a chatting vote in matters before the house.

“In fact, the speakership in Ghana is designed to be even more impartial and more apolitical than the speaker of the House of Common in Westminster.

“It is indeed to ensure that the speaker remains impartial in presiding over the affairs of this house.”
