Otumfuo Osei Tutu has appointed board of Directors and tasked them to restore Asante Kotoko Sporting club “not only for its performance on the sporting field but as a viable economic entity.”

The Patron of the Club, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II appointed a three-member panel last month chaired by the Dean of the Faculty of Law of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Prof. Lydia Nkansah to look into the affairs of the club and based on their final report, the Asantehene deemed it fit to choose nine men to manage the affairs of the Club.

“The panel gave the green light for the constitution of a new Board to bring Asante Kotoko SC in compliance with both the licensing regulations of the Premier League and its statutory obligations under company laws,” a statement released and signed by the Chief of Staff, Kofi Badu stated.

Dr. Kwame Kyei is the Chairman of the board, assisted by Mr Jude Arthur of the Ghana Commercial Bank. The rest include Kwadwo Boateng Gyamfi, EXIM Bank, Kwasi Osei Ofori, Erdmark Group and CEO of Rocksure Mining Company, Alhaji Abu Lamin, Businessman, Lawyer Kwamina Mensah (Esq), Joseph Yaw Addo, Retired Director of Sports at the KNUST, Evelyn Nsiah Asare, Acting Head Of Sports at the Sunyani Technical University and Baffour Kwame Kusi, Otumfuo’s Ankobeahene.

“The Board will be the highest decision-making body of the Club, responsible to the sole shareholder for policy formulation and active oversight over the management, development, financial control, technical direction, and performance of the Club,” the statement added.

“Against the backdrop of recent disquiet among stake-holders, and without prejudice to the outcome of the ongoing Prof. Lydia Nkansah committee, His Majesty has tasked the Board to rebuild the Asante Kotoko SC brand both for its performance on the sporting field and as a viable and self-sustaining economic entity able ultimately to reclaim its pre-eminent position among the elite Clubs of Africa.

He has directed the Board to set up the Asante Kotoko SC academy and establish a new social compact with Asanteman to provide opportunities for the development of the youth within the communities for advancement through sports.

The firmness of a professional government of the club through technological and analytical skills was defined by the Asantehene to be employed to help animate the beauty and effectiveness of Asante Kotoko.
