The Overlord of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on Tuesday, March 2, 2021, took the covid-19 vaccine together with his wife, Lady Julia Osei Tutu at the premises of Manhyia.

The Asantehene clad in an all-white cloth and nose mask was attended to by female health personnel to receive the AstraZeneca shot in public surrounded by the media who served as witnesses.

He received applause after the exercise before Lady Julia also took her turn.

Speaking to the president of the Ghana Medical Association, Dr Frank Ankobea who was there to witness the Asantehene take the shot and get one for himself, he revealed that the participation of country leaders in the immunization exercise is proof that the covid-19 injection is safe for all.

“I can say there is enough proof that the vaccine is safe. Our president, vice together with their wives and Otumfuo has demonstrated it today. If their vaccine wasn’t safe, they wouldn’t have taken it. But I want to assure the good people of Ghana that the vaccine is safe and we'll encourage every Ghanaian to forget about the misconceptions and go-ahead for the shot when they have access," he added.

On whether the education of the vaccine to the public is enough to drain the misconceptions by unknown sources, he added that “We started a bit late, but we are doing our best."

“The Ghana Medical Association, the Health Service, Ministry of Health are all trying to bring everything g into perspective but we are telling everyone that we are talking about science and data.

“Those who are claiming the vaccine is not safe have provided no evidence. We must keep on explaining to people what the vaccine can do.”

Many leaders were at Manhyia to receive the vaccine including the Kumasi Metropolitan Mayor, Honorable Osei Assibey Antwi.
