Praise Assembly of the Church of Pentecost, Mamponteng District has donated food items worth GH₵1,000 to vulnerable members in the church on Good Friday, April 10, 2020.

The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Thursday, April 9, 2020 extended Ghana’s partial lockdown in the Greater Accra, Greater Kumasi, Kasoa and Tema after earlier announcing a two-week limitation as part of effort to stop the spread of the viral disease in the country.

The leadership of the local church deemed it an opportunity and a fulfilment of scripture, Galatians 6:10, “therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers” to reach out to the needy in a time where lives are terrorized and trades seized in fight against the novel COVID-19 crises under lock down directives.

According to the presiding elder of Praise Assembly, Elder Stephen Ofori, the deprived in the church cannot be disregarded following a halt in their daily occupations, which is their means of survival. He disclosed that although the local assembly is juvenile in existence yet the COVID-19 hit is a challenge towards the church to cater for the welfare of her members.

“We deem it a great opportunity to donate these items to members who have been affected by the lock down command. We cannot leave these responsibilities to the government alone, we owe our congregation these gifts in such a time like this,” he said.

“Praise Assembly is a young church with a total of 35 members and one-third of our members have been identified as vulnerable which puts us in a position to fulfill our mandate as shepherds,” he added.

Supporting elder and District Home Cell leader, Elder Frank Amoako also asserted that if members would understand the love preached on pulpits, the defining moment is this moment for the church to serve for the interest of its members.

“This is indeed the time members need the assistance of the church. It is a period of demonstrating the love we preach to the congregation who have been committed to the course of God’s work and have been knock by this crisis,” he revealed.

To observe the social distancing procedure, Elder Stephen Ofori, joined by Elder Frank Amoako and wife, Mrs. Abigail Amoako moved to the homes of members in the District and provided them with food items packaged attractively and offered prayers to them. Members were also educated on the preventive measures and the need to stay indoors as a means to constrain the pandemic. With delight, the believers scattered within Mamponteng and Bampenase appreciated the unexpected visit of the local leaders and acknowledged them for meeting their needs in such a time.

“We are very grateful to the Church of Pentecost, Praise Assembly for remembering us in this time of remembrance. The coronavirus has made life a tough one to live, robbing our privilege to work and isolating us. Thanks to the presiding elder, presbytery and contributors who made this a possibility,” one member said.

“We never expected this. We (family) have been indoors and did not look forward to this donation. We are grateful for making us part of your reasoning. God bless the church, leaders and every stakeholder. It is our prayer that the world overcome this disease to get back life to normal,” another added.
