Angry traders at the Kumasi Racecourse market have threatened not to pay taxes to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) again following what they call apparent deceit and unfair treatment by the assembly.

According to these angry traders who specifically sell yam, plantain among others told SN24 News that they cannot continue to pay levies to the KMA without seeing any development at the market.

They lamented that the market is disgusting in the sense that, for more than 5 years now they been selling in the muddy racecourse market.

The situation according to the traders invariably had made it problematic for customers to buy food items on the deplorable racecourse market.

They stated again that, the roads that lead to the market are very deplorable and this makes it cumbersome for drivers to offload their goods on the market, while others who transport the goods to the marketplace charge abnormal prices.

The traders revealed that they have petitioned the KMA, headed by Mr. Osei Asibey Antwi but no solutions have been provided.

Ohemaa Esther, one of the leaders of the traders said the assembly has innumerable times deceived them of rehabilitating the market but has failed, therefore they will not kowtow to the blatant lies of the Assembly’s authorities again.

The sellers however have threatened that the KMA revenue collectors should not dare to venture into the market for returns because they will never pay.

"Nobody should dare come here again for any ticket, we are tired of deception. You promised to fix our problems by collecting a huge amount of monies from us, but we don't see anything. So we’re not paying again, you can’t fool us again," they furiously said.
