The Supreme Leader and President of the Tijaniyya Muslim Council of Ghana, Khalifa Sheikh Ahmed Abulfaid Maikano has announced 10th April for the commencement of the 2021 Ramadan fasting.

“The 29 or 30-day Fasting will commence on the 10th of April 2021,” he said.

The pronouncement was made based on the calculations of the household of Sheikh Abdullahi Maikano Jallo.

He said, “intentions should be taken on the 10th against 11th April at dawn because 11th April will be the first day of this year's Ramadan (fasting).”

Principles of Ramadan

During Ramadan, Muslims above fifteen (15) years abstain from eating any food, drinking any liquids, smoking cigarettes, and engaging in any sexual activity, from dawn to sunset. Some Islamic scholars are against the cleansing of the gum, whilst some are for.

Fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam. Fasting is prescribed for all Muslims who are mature and healthy enough to do so for the full day. So Muslims fast as an act of worship, a chance to get closer to God, and a way to become more compassionate to those in need.
