Ruto slams 'selfish' idea to scrap president term limit

Kenya's President William Ruto criticized as "selfish" the legislator's remarks that the nation should eliminate its two-term presidential limit.

President Ruto, who took office in September, is quoted as saying, "Do not spend your time pushing for selfish and self-serving legislation like changing the constitution to remove term limits; my focus is service to the people."

Recently, United Democratic Alliance (UDA) member Salah Yakub stirred up debate by calling for the removal of the presidential term limit because it "hindered the head of state from developing the nation."

"There should be no restriction on the number of presidential terms, not even to two, three, or four.

UDA, the party of Mr. Ruto, refuted the assertion.
