Mohamed Salah could miss the early fixtures of Liverpool’s Premier League campaign ahead of next season after he agreed to join Egypt u-23 to the summer Olympics.

The forward was named in the provisional squad of the Egypt under-23 coach, Shawky Gharib and per his words, the Reds forward want to play, a decision which denies his involvement in the Reds pre-season and the start of the new campaign.

“I have made it known publicly that I would like to have him with us during our Olympic campaign and he did not refuse, which means he also wants to play with us,” the manager said.

“Salah's participation in the Olympics is supported by the state, represented by the Ministry of Sports and the Egyptian Football Federation, in our joint effort to bring home an Olympic football medal for the first time.”

The tournament runs from 23 July to 8 August, with each nation allowed to present three players above 23-year old for the completion.

The Premier League has earlier announced that next season’s campaign will begin on 14 August, a week after it was initially set. Egypt is yet to speak to Liverpool to whether they could grant their forward the permission to let Salah represent his nation in the tournament.
