The Concerned Drivers Association has asked the government to scrap nuisance taxes else they will increase transport fares by 20% in the next few days.
The drivers earlier threatened to increase transport fares by 20% if the government failed to scrap some taxes from the petroleum price build-up.
"We want to draw the attention of Ghanaians to the fact that, the government is continuously mining in pockets of drivers with nuisance taxes on petroleum products, the leadership of the Association issued the threat in a strong worded statement copied to Soireenews.com.
According to the signed by Chairman of the Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana, the PRO of Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana, David Agboado and Deputy Secretary of C-DAG, Nana Owiredu, the government refusal to scrap off these imposed levies and margins on petroleum products is negatively affecting our industry.
The statement indicated that such levies are sanitation and pollution and special petroleum tax
"We are cautioning the government to clear off these levies off the petroleum products to ease financial burden on us.
"The Vice president who is the current running mate of the ruling party and doubles as the chairman of the economic management committee Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has made us understand clearing off these nuisance taxes is possible.
Hence refusal of the government to heed to our call will result in series of demonstrations and random increment of transport fares.
