Steven Bergwijn scored a brilliant goal on his Tottenham Hotspur debut as they beat Manchester City 2-0 and moved up to fifth in the Premier League table.

The Dutchman started on the right wing only five days after joining the club, and 10 after his final game for PSV. Erik Lamela dropped to the bench.

There were two other changes from their 2-1 win over Norwich, as Japhet Tanganga returned at left-back for his fifth start in sixth Premier League games in place of Ryan Sessegnon, and Davinson Sanchez - who has never been on the winning side against Man City in five attempts - replacing Jan Vertonghen.

Sergio Aguero returned to the starting line-up after coming off the bench against Sheffield United in their last Premier League game to score the winner, meaning Gabriel Jesus settle for a place among the substitutes.

The other change from that game saw was Aymeric Laporte remain absent from the squad. Fernandinho dropped into the back four, and Ilkay Gundogan came into central midfield.

The first half of the game produced a goalless result after lots of VAR drama. There was penalty awarded to Manchester City Mahrez's ball inside was swiped at by Sterling and pretty much missed altogether, picked up by Aguero and a robust challenge from Aurier left him on the ground.

Mike Dean made it clear he thought Aurier won the ball, and play continued by after 90 seconds VAR gave the penalty. Aurier didn't get the ball after all, and after blowing up, Dean points to the spot! Hugo Lloris went down to his left and kept out his terrible effort! But then he swiped at Sterling and picked up the rebound. VAR dismissed the penalty claims and play continued.

Zinchenko was sent off in the 61-minute after a challenge on Winks. It was a dreadful corner from Mahrez and he gave Winks license to drive straight at the visiting defence. Zinchenko made what looked a typical Pep tactical foul but was made to pay for it when he received his marching orders with a second yellow.

Two minutes later, Spurs scored. Man City didn’t deal with a Tottenham corner, Lucas looked to his midfield partner and Bergwijn brought it down on his chest before rifling the ball into the far corner.

Son Heung-min doubled Spurs' advantage in the 71st minute, firing low past Ederson.

Ndombele found Son on the edge of the box in a bit of space, his first touch opened him up for a shot and he beat Ederson at his near post with a bit of help from a deflection off Fernandinho.

Victory means Spurs trail fourth-placed Chelsea by four points. Man City remain second with 51 points, 22 points behind leaders Liverpool.
