The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Oforikrom, Hon. Gloria Temmah Gambra says the construction of a permanent Civic block for her Municipality is a significant boost in the administration of the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in the Local Government.

 

 

The Oforikrom Municipal, one of the 38 newly created and upgraded MMDA’s is part of the first batch of Assemblies to benefit from government’s initiative to build an administration block for the daily management of the Assembly.

"Oforikrom is priveleged to be part of the first batch of Assemblies to benefit from this project. Infact to have a permanent Municipal administration block is very important when it comes to the running of the Assembly," she said.

 

 

According to the MCE, the construction of the block will improvise the successful supervision and control of the Local government to aid a better Ghana Agenda. Speaking at the sod cutting ceremony held on Tuesday, November 13 at Ayigya, she appreciated the help of the various Chiefs and their assistance in helping the Assembly to acquire a land fit to start the project especially Nana Akosua Serwaa Oheneafreno, the Queenmother of Ayigya who offered the plot.

“The Queenmother of Ayigya made a promise years ago that she will provide us a land for the building of an Assembly block but because it was outside the Municipal capital, we did not consider it fit for the project. When we were made aware by government concerning the construction, we tried to locate a land at Oforikrom but none was available therefore, we consulted Nana Hemaa once again to live up to her promise and she gave it out for the commencement of the work,” she said.

 

 

She revealed that works on the building would take nine months to be completed meaning the commissioning of the project will happen in August.

Nana Akosua Serwaa Oheneafreno, the Queenmother of Ayigya acknowledged the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for supporting the wonderful proposal of the construction at Ayigya. She assured to keep the consultants on their toes to meet the required period for the commissioning of the nine-month project.

 

 

“The Municipal will help improve the way of life at Ayigya through the creation of jobs and developmental projects. It is our duty as leaders to solve the challenges of our residents so the construction of the Assembly Block is a positive news for us,” Nana said.

The project is a three storey building occupied with offices and a 150 conference hall.
