Turkish Airlines Suspends Flights To Nigeria Over Coronavirus

Turkish Airlines has announced the cancellation of all its flights to Lagos, Abuja and Port-Harcourt to avoid the further spread of the coronavirus.

The airline revealed in a statement that it is taking this measure for safety reasons.

The statement read that the cancellation of flights to its three destinations in Nigeria was to contain the spread of Coronavirus currently ravaging the world at large.

The statement further explained that the cancellations will start for flights originally scheduled to arrive Lagos on March 17th, 23rd and 29th, and flights for Abuja scheduled for March 13th, 16th, 20th, 25th, 27th and April 1st, 2020. Flights for Port-Harcourt will not operate on March 11th, 13th, 18th and 25th.

It would be interesting to note that the airline was responsible for conveying the Italian man who brought the virus to Nigeria on February 25th. So it comes as no surprise seeing them take this safety and preventive measure.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has since shown its readiness to contain the spread of the dreaded virus by putting measures in place to arrest the situation. So far, a second case has been confirmed in the country. The patient being one of the close contacts to the index case.
