The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) of the Ghana Police Service, James Oppong-Boanuh has publicized that the new voter’s registration exercise carried out by the Electoral Commission of Ghana was of great assistance to the security service in identifying electoral areas that would require strict security during elections.

He has therefore advised constituents to cooperate with the Police Service by putting up good behaviours before, during and after the December 7 elections to lessen tensions for the peace enjoyed by citizens to remain.

“The registration gave us an insight as to which place we need to beef up security and observe. So after the exercise, we have gone back to the drawing board and identify several hotspots to beef up security.

“Let me appeal to Ghanaians that we should go to the polling stations, cast our votes and do not ferment any trouble because if you do, the law will catch up with you,” he added.

“My visit has to do the operational assessment of the readiness of the police in Ashanti towards the 2020 elections," he made known.

"You have all witnessed the scenario that was staged and the response of the police. You've looked at how they have responded to the situations. This is to show how they’ll react should there be any incident on election day.

"Apart from accessing operational readiness of the police, I'm here also to meet with major stakeholders of the region more or less our partners of peace so I've had a meeting this morning at Manhyia and spoken to Otumfuo and he has given us some advice.

"But let me assure the whole of Ghana that we are ready and prepared to police the ballot before, during and after election day. From here I'm going to meet the personnel of the police service and look at their welfare and see whether they have challenges that they think will militate against them come December 7.

"If there are any gaps in their logistics and personal welfare issues, we‘ll address them when we get back to Accra.”
