The Operations Manager of Central Market, Concerned Kejetia Traders Union, Kwabena Fosu has guaranteed traders that measures are in place to provide them suitable grounds for commerce before they vacate Central Market for construction works to proceed.

MK as known by many further pleaded to all stakeholders to disregard media fabrications and contact the right source of information before taking actions they believe is suitable to fight for what is right.

“The ongoing project at Central Market has rules that state that a trader can be evacuated only when a temporal place has been provided.

“In fact, we are not biased leaders and the demonstrations and complaints are as a result of misinformation,” he added.

The Central Market Traders Union made up of different traders Association on Monday expressed utmost discontent at the manner in which the KMA is handling their exodus from the grounds to pave way for the building of the Central Market through protests.

The angry men and women told that the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has failed to provide them with a place to relocate than to talk of time duration for their evacuation, a decision they see as bad-mannered to their profession especially in such a time where coronavirus has affected business.

Kwabena Fosu has dismissed such allegations and confirmed that the three groups of traders at the Kejetia Market will soon be allocated to different market sites that suit their business and the welfare of their profession.

“As I speak to you now, we have three groups at the market fighting for the best of traders. We have come to a decision that the whole of Fossline traders are heading to Nana Afia Kobi Market.

“Traders of fish and meat have been apportioned to racecourse and sellers in the lockable shops also have been given the Nana Afia Kobi Market."

The Operations Manager of Central Market assured that security was one challenge at the Nana Afia Kobi Market yet with the assistance of the Ashanti Regional Minister, Honorable Simon Osei Mensah and the KMA Boss, Honorable Osei Assibey Antwi, a police post will soon be constructed to curb criminal acts on the grounds.

“When we visited the Nana Afia Kobi market, some of the challenges were security but the regional Minister and KMA have assured to build a police post on the grounds just like a racecourse.

"We are working to make the place comfortable for business so they shouldn’t heed to rumours. We want the best and we ll do whatever it takes to give them the best.”

He refuted any allegations of bribery for stalls and challenged any accuser to come forward.

He assured that every trader who is part of the registration process through monies paid to KMA should be rest assured that when works are done at the Kumasi Central Market, they will be given their space to do business.

He finally called on the media to be accurate in their reportage and consult the right people when there are questions than to invent their own for listeners.
