Aid convoy carrying Ukraine grain arrives in Ethiopia

Nearly a month after leaving the Black Sea port of Pivdennyi, 60 lorries carrying grain from Ukraine have arrived in Ethiopia.

The World Food Programme (WFP) purchased the goods to support its humanitarian activities in the country in the Horn of Africa.

Since the beginning of Russia's invasion, this is the first grain shipment from Ukraine to Africa.

More than a million and a half people will benefit from the supplies for a month's worth of food, the WFP told the BBC.

Some 23,000 tonnes of Ukrainian wheat docked in neighboring Djibouti last week.

Ethiopia and other nations in the area are dealing with a protracted drought.

Around 20 million people now require food aid due to this as well as the ongoing civil fighting in the northern Tigray province.

However, recent fighting in the nation's north makes it challenging to get food to those in need, particularly in the troubled Tigray province.
