At least 11 die as storm Freddy pounds Malawi

According to Malawian police, tropical cyclone Freddy's devastation has resulted in at least 11 fatalities and 16 unaccounted-for persons.

We don't yet know the complete scope of the damage or the number of casualties due to communication lines being cut.

However, when homes were destroyed, people perished, and authorities in the city of Blantyre are concerned that people may be trapped under the debris.

One of the strongest storms to ever be documented in the southern hemisphere, Freddy has left Mozambique and Malawi with weeks' worth of nonstop rain.

According to preliminary reports from aid organizations operating in Mozambique, private residences and infrastructure have sustained significant harm in more than half of the nation's provinces.
