Ayensuano, Aworoeso D/A Basic School Resort to Open Defecation Due to Lack of Toilet Facility 

The lack of toilet facility and potable drinking water in the Aworoeso D/A basic school in Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region has compelled pupils to engage in open defecation,  a practice which detrimental to their health.

The lack of toilet facility and potable drinking water in the Aworoeso D/A basic school in Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region has compelled pupils to engage in open defecation,  a practice which detrimental to their health. 

The Assembly Member for Aworoeso  Electoral Area, Honorable Mottey Lawrence, speaking to the media said, the lack of toilet facilities and potable drinking water in the school is making school life unbearable for both teachers and the pupils as they resort to open defecation when nature calls.

According to the Assembly   Member, the above mentioned is not the only the school has been facing.

He mentioned lack of potable drinking water,  electricity, computer lab,  teachers for KG 1 and 2 ,  teacher for class 2 pupil among others as serious challenges facing the school.

Mr. Tettey also appealed for extension of school  feeding to the area to ease the burding on parents and teachers.

He noted that, seveal complaints have been made to the District Assembly but to no avail.

Mr Lawrence is howver calling for support from government, philanthropists, and other stakeholders to help address the menace by providing them with modern toilet facilities and potable drinking water to improve the sanitation condition in the area.

Mr. Tettey also appealed for extension of school  feeding to the area to ease the burding on parents and teachers.

Honorable Motttey Lawrence said that Aworoeso, is a farming community and over the years has been resorting to attending nature’s call in the bush and open places which the only death trap toilet in the community is what they share with the school children. 

The pupils also expressed their worry and described the situation as a threat to their health.

The students continue that, "can you believe that in this 21st century, where technology has advanced and taken over everywhere,  we no nothing about computer and also go to the bush to ease ourselves?"

Some students observed that they feel ashamed when visitors request for toilet facility when they visit the school and other social activities as they have to direct them to the bush for such purposes.

The students therefore appealed to the government and the district assembly to provide them with the needed facilities to prevent any possible outbreak of cholera in the area.
