The Bono Regional Minister, Honourable Justina Owusu Banahene has commissioned a high dependency unit for covid-19 patients at Holy Family hospital in Berekum of the Bono region.

The facility was established by the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG). 

CHAG is a Network organisation of 183 health facilities and health training institutions owned by 21 different Christian Church Denominations. CHAG seeks to provide health care to the most vulnerable and underprivileged population groups in all 16 Regions of Ghana, particularly in the most remote areas.

CHAG in partnership with the Ghana Health Service and sponsored by FCDO, has begun a 2-year project which is known as the Covid-19 Response Institutional Capacity Building Project (CRIB). This project is implemented in 40 districts where CHAG facilities are district hospitals.

The project seeks to support the Government of Ghana’s response to Covid-19 in strengthening Ghana’s Health Systems to maintain the delivery of essential healthcare services and mobilize all available resources for Covid-19 response actions.

The Regional Minister in her address emphasized the importance of protecting human lives by prioritizing the health of the people. She noted that since the confirmation of the 1st case of COVID-19 in the country, the government has implemented a robust response aimed at limiting and containing the spread of the virus.

She said as part of the response to the improvement of the health sector to enable the country to be prepared for future eventualities is agenda 111 where it seeks to build more hospitals across the length and breadth of the country, coupled with several interventions.

She emphasized the commitment of the government to develop suitable infrastructure to ensure sufficient capacity to treat all COVID-19 cases should there be a surge in cases. She expressed gratitude to CHAG for establishing a high dependency unit for covid-19 patients at Holy Family hospital to augment the fight against COVID 19.

Madam Elizabeth A Cadman, the development director of the British Commission-Ghana urged Ghanaians on the importance to get vaccinated to enable the government to reach its goal of vaccinating over 20 million citizens in the country.
