According to them, any attempt by the authorities to allow mining firms to do galamsey at Benim, a community at Asante Manpong will not stand because they will resist the move by these galamyers.

The Concern Citizen of Asante Manpong in the Ashanti Region has kicked against galamsey prospecting in the town.

They disclosed that galamsey is evil, it's also a killer and they don't want any galamsey activity in Asante Manpong in the Sekyere Central of the Ashanti Region.

According to them, any attempt by the authorities to allow mining firms to do galamsey at Benim, a community at Asante Manpong will not stand because they will resist the move by these galamyers.

The leading member of the group, Mr victor Owusu started that, they have seen several communities that have been destroyed by galamsey activities and the people in such communities are still suffering hence they will allow anybody to undertake such activities in the town.

They added that "galamsey communities in the country lack potable water, risk of high teenage pregnancy, no land for plantation and they continue to suffer".

Mr Victor Owusu made this statement at Asante Manpo during a press conference organised by the Concern Citizens of Asante Manpong Against Galamsey and the Traditional Authorities of Asante Manpong backed the Paramount Chief of Asnate Manpong, Dasebere Osei Bonsu who has raised a red flag to kick against any galamsey activity in the town.

Mr Victor Owusu emphatically stated that the Youth of Manpong are not ready to undertake gabemsey activities and doing so will prevent the students from getting water to drink, their lands will be destroyed and their lives are going to be in danger.

Touching on the activities of the Minerals commission by giving a permit to someone to come to the Asante Manpong lands without consulting the traditional council of Asante Manpong and because of that nobody will be entertained to mine on their land.

According to them, this is a sign of disrespect and they want to sound a strong warning to the minerals commission to do their work diligently as expected and then to give authorization without seeking the consent of the authorities.

Speaking to some of the residents in the town they claimed they support the decision of their chiefs and community leaders to prevent any attempt of galamsey activities in the town.

They, therefore, pledge their total support to their traditional leaders and will resist any possible attempt to allow galamsey activities in the Benim Community.
