Deal with Krokobite, Plerno trouble makers Now! - Kingmakers urge IGP
Nii Ofei III

Principal kingmakers and elders of Kokrobite Divisional Stool in Ga South Municipality under the Ngleshie Alata Traditional Council in Accra have maintained that Nii Ofei III is the only legitimate installed Chief of Kokrobite.

In this regard, the traditional officeholders have called on the Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs to urgently impress upon the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to deal with what they described as the so-called lawful Attorney of Ardey Nkpa Family of Plerno/James Town in Accra, Mr Frank K Lewi and self-seeking elders who want to drag the name of Nii Ofei III or the Krokobite Stool into the mud.

The kingmakers and elders outburst was in reaction to claims published on the front page of New Crusading Guide on Tuesday, April 20, 2021.

In that report, the paper attributed the story to some individuals led by the lawful Attorney of Nii Arde Family of Plerno/James Town in Accra, Mr Frank K Lewil, who said that Nii Ofei III is the caretaker chief and not the Mantse (Chief) of Kokrobite.

However, this did not go down well with the kingmakers and elders of the area who held a press conference on Tuesday, April 20, 2021, in Krokobite to set the records straight on the matter.

They described the allegation against Nii Ofei III as “unacceptable, malicious, libellous, and an insult to the intelligence of the principal kingmakers and elders of Kokrobite.”

Fuming with anger, the kingmakers discounted claims by members of Nii Ardey Nkpa Family of Plerno/James Town that Nii Ofei III is the Caretaker Chief of Krokobite and not an Overlord of the area.

"We want to inform the general public that there is nothing like a caretaker chief in Krokobite and that the only person who is recognised by the traditions and customs as the Chief or Overlord of Krokobite is Nii Ofei III who was installed by the principal kingmaker, Nii Apeten Acquah on July 19, 2010.”

“For the records, we wish to say that, Nii Ofei III, who is the son of the late Kokrobite Chief, Nii Ofei II, was properly elected, nominated, and subsequently enstooled as the Kokrobite Mantse.

“…it is common knowledge in Ga customs and practices that, a chief should be enstooled by the principal kingmaker. The unchallenged Principal Kingmaker of Ngleshie Kokrobite who is Nii Apeten Acquah and the Krokobite Stool father of Krokobite Stool, Nii Arde Ansah II, before whom Nii Ofei III swore the traditional Oath of Allegiance at Kokrobite on July 19, 2010,” the kingmakers explained.

They pointed out that Nii Ofei III was subsequently inducted into Ngleshie Alata Traditional Council as the substantive Kokrobite Chief on February 2, 2016, by the Paramount Chief of James Town, Obrempong Nii Ababio V.

The kingmakers further stated that the claim by the NII Ardey Nkpa Family to the effect that the statutory declaration affected the late Chief of the area, Nii Offe II, and so does affect the current Chief of Krokobite, Nii Ofe III, was not true and should be disregarded.

According to them, attempts by the Nii Arde Family of Kokrobite, led by Mr Frank K Lewi, to continue to discredit Nii Ofei III was unfortunate and warned those behind such moves to seize.

In a strongly-worded warning to Ardey Nkpa Family, the aggrieved kingmakers stated that references to Nii Ofei IIl as a caretaker amounted to insult on his status as a sub-chief.

They pointed out that Nii Ofei III succeeded his father, Nii Ofei II after his legitimate election and installation in 2010, and called for at least, a “modicum of respect for him.”

The kingmakers again called on Nii Arde Nkpa We to put an end to the mudslinging of Nii Ofei III, failing which they will take appropriate legal action against them.

They explained that all the court judgements in connection with the chieftaincy issue in the area were generally declared in favour of Nii Offei III.
