The Municipal Chief Executive of Dormaa Central Municipal Assembly (MCE), Honourable Drissa Ouattara in collaboration with the members of the Municipal Security Committee have embarked on operations to galamsey sites across the Municipality.

The team stormed Kosane, Kwakubedikrom and Kuren illegal sand winning site.

The following items were retrieved upon reaching sites; pumping machines, Generators, Motorbikes and others.

Speaking in an interview with the special aid for the Municipal Chief Executive, Nana Damoah stated that, the move was done based on a tip-off that Galamsey activities are still ongoing despite efforts by the Assembly to eliminate the canker.

Honourable Drissa Ouattara, MCE

Recalling an incident that happened at the exercise, Nana Dwomo said after they were done with the exercise and had left the place, he recalled he has left something there and upon their return to the site, they again met these illegal miners in the act barely three hours after the exercise.

This according to him was a clear indication that until proper deliberations are made; the canker cannot be dealt with.

He said, the Assembly together with the Traditional Authorities in the catchment area is considering series of engagements to find a lasting solution to the canker.

He was however quick to add that, the engagement will reconsider community mining as they believe engaging these miners in proper training so they can mine appropriately will help solve the damages illegal mining has been causing the water bodies and the environment.
