Som eworkers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have Today, April 26 2021 demonstrated against their Managing Director, Kwame Agyeman Budu.

A significant number of the workers were clad in red armbands amidst hoisting of red flags, drumming and dancing.

The agitated staff had in a statement earlier this month called for the dismissal of current MD who they described as a visionless leader.

According to the workers, Mr. Agyeman-Budu has not satisfactorily steered the affairs of the company since his appointment.

They said the incompetence of the Managing Director has dwindled the fortunes of the nation's power generating company.

They also accuse their MD of breaching procurement processes.

“The Managing Director has been in office for close to two (2) years and has shown lack of vision for the Company. This has been evidenced by misplaced priorities which has led to the unavailability of critical materials such as meters, service cables conductors, prepaid vending accessories, maintenance materials, which has caused delays in connecting and supplying customers who have paid for such services.

“[Another] clear example of [misconduct] is the awarding of contracts of some Six (6) substations where the recommendations of the evaluation committee were sidestepped and awarded to other companies,” the Junior and Senior Staff Unions said in a statement.

Reacting to the workers initial agitation, Mr Agyeman-Budu, described the accusations and allegations against him as untrue.

He insisted the company, under his leadership initiated the one-day, one-service for new meters for customers
