Election 2020: It is good NDC chose the legal path to contest results - Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says the decision by the opposition NDC to seek legal redress on the results of the 2020 polls, is good for the country.

The president said there were less appropriate options available to the NDC  to express their dissatisfaction of the results but they chose to contest it in court.

Nana Akufo-Addo made these remarks in his final State of the Nation Address in Parliament to mark the end of his first term as president.

The NDC has filed a petition at the Supreme Court contesting the presidential results from the 2020 general elections.

The petition seeks among others, a declaration from the Supreme Court to the effect that, “the purported declaration of the results of the 2020 Presidential Election on the 9th day of December 2020 is unconstitutional, null and void and of no effect whatsoever.”

According to the NDC, there were widespread irregularities in the polls and the Electoral Commission (EC) also padded the results in favour of President Akufo-Addo.

Meanwhile, flagbearear of the NDC, John Mahama has said the party will continue with its protests against the Electoral Commission over “election rigging” whilst seeking redress in court.
