Chelsea's Kurt Zouma takes the ball away from danger

Edouard Mendy was the standout performer in the Blue’s Premier League game against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday.

It was the first time the Red Devils failed to win three home league games since 1972-73.

Chelsea made one change for their 0-0 draw with Sevilla in the Champions League. Mason Mount dropped to the bench with Cesar Azpilicueta coming in to shore things up at the back.

Man Utd named the same starting team that faced Newcastle in last weekend’s 4-1 win at St James’ Park in the Premier League with Edinson Cavani on the bench.

Chelsea saw most of the ball in the initial minutes as they knocked the ball around between themselves pretty deep.

Manchester United calmly settled in the game as the two teams cautiously from the back and not wanting to make a mistake.

Chelsea won the first cross of the game in the 18-minute after Jorginho's cross towards goal was seen behind by the Man United defence. Chilwell delivered and the ball was cleared out to the waiting Pulisic by a poor touch from Zouma, but he swiped at the ball and the Red Devils were able to clear.

Mendy almost gave the home team the lead following a misdirected back pass. Zouma played the ball back to him and he attempted to pick out Silva on the other side, which almost dragged the ball into his own net but luckily, it went behind for a corner.

The two sides continued to enjoy possession as they lacked the creative ability in midfield to connect the forwards. Luke Shaw went into the books of the referee after pulling a marauding Reece James to defend a freekick. Minutes later, Manchester United avoided a penalty when Maguire nodded a freekick away - but he did climb over the top of Azpilicueta to do it. There is an arm around the Chelsea captain, but despite his protests, no penalty is given.

Pogba and Cavani were introduced in the second half for Mata and Dan James, with the United manager attacking minded. He needed that creativity in the middle to give his forwards room to convert chances. Four minutes later, Cavani almost scored a debut goal but Mendy was there to rescue Chelsea.

Fernandes took the corner short to Shaw before receiving it back and putting the ball into the area. Cavani got his body ahead of Havertz and flicked the ball goalwards, but it hammered into the side of the net.

Werner and Havertz made way for Mount and Abraham before Chelsea started seeing the better of the play in the last few minutes.

Mendy denied the Marcus Rashford a goal in the 90-minute when the forward sent a curling effort his way after Chelsea failed to clear a cross properly. His thunderous shot was saved by the leaping goalkeeper to end the game goaless.
