Eswatini PM denounces 'bullying' of Taiwan

Cleopas Dlamini, the prime minister of Eswatini, declared on Monday in Taipei that his nation is still committed to maintaining diplomatic ties with Taiwan and that he opposes "any type of bullying or aggression" against Taiwan.

"The people of Taiwan should be ruled within Taiwan by a government they elect themselves in fair and free elections, without any external pressure," Mr. Dlamini said during a meeting with President Tsai Ing-wen.

Mr. Dlamini also expressed gratitude to Taiwan's leadership for its long-standing assistance to Eswatini.

Eswatini is one of only 14 nations in the world and the only state in Africa to retain diplomatic ties with Taiwan, which China views as an independent province.

In September, Taiwan and Eswatini will commemorate 55 years of formal relations.
