A final year student of St. Andrews Senior High School, Bismark Adarkwa has drowned in a galamsey pit that has been abandoned for many years at  Abesewa near Dunkwa on Offin in the Upper Denkyra East  Municipality of Central Region.

The deceased was on a visit to collect money from his uncle a Barrier near Dunkwa-Offin which the sad incident happened.

Speaking in an interview with Central Regional Soireenews Correspondent, Abusuapanyin Kojo Ahinful, the Municipal Director of National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO)  Mr Alhassan Yakubu said, NADMO together with Ghana National Fire Service and some community members tried to retrieve the lifeless body of the final year student but couldn’t find him.

He called on the government as a matter of urgency to come and help cover the abandoned galamsey pit in the area.

He finally cautioned the public to avoid be watchful when walking at galamsey sites in the rainy season.

The Assembly Member of Abesewa Compound Electoral Area, Hon Johnson Edmund expressed shock and disheartened about the incident.

He advised the parents and teachers to take good care of their children to avoid such incidents.
 
However, Nana Akaah Barrier Kyidomhene urged that measures will be put in place to cover the abandoned galamsey pit in the community.

Meanwhile, the search party will continue the search today to find the deceased body.
