An executive member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Mr. Afful Manu Benjamin has urged the managers of the economy to focus on implementing pragmatic economic policies to secure the future of this country.
This, he said would spur the growth of the country into the attainment of economic independence.
Mr. Benjamin made the remarks in an interview, zeroing in the impact of importation, he maintained that Ghana needed conciliatory agenda to help boost the local industries which are needed to reduce the deficit of importations.

Mr. Benjamin justified the government’s idea of introducing the beach mark value which according to him, is aimed at encouraging the growth of local industries through lowering importations.
“When the raw materials are processed in the country, the importations of those goods will stop and the local industries will take advantage of it”, he said.
He added, “We need laws that will back taxes on importation as the country is aiming to move from importation to production.”
He observed that the country would benefit from the raw material and that could lead to establishing the local industries.
“Everything at a start faces difficulties but with time, the more we are producing the will be a stand to reduce more of imports.  Sometimes I get worried when I look around and see raw materials that we have which are wasting away but we cannot make them productive”, he further lamented.
According to him, the policy of producing local goods with the establishment of one district one factory would generate a massive source of employment to the youth while at the same time, the value of raw materials would go up.
Mr. Benjamin maintained that when Ghana begins the production of goods, importation of same would reduce making Ghana self-reliant.
